Belbea Tourist Resort is the right place to enjoy your stay among the beauties of Western Liguria: the sea, the village of Toirano with its famous caves, mills and ancients allies are all within 15 minutes drive from Belbea Resort. It is a truly authentic place where to enjoy the taste of traditional focaccia while taking a walk through the old part of the village which stretches along medieval belfries, ancient arcades and hidden squares where time has stopped. Proceeding uphill, among olive tree groves, lays the medieval village of Balestrino. The old village, originally founded in the Middle Ages, clinging to the hill, has been deserted for the past 50 years because threatened by a landslide. This magical place, towered by the medieval castle originally built in the XVI century, destroyed by the French army in the year 1794, was soon rebuilt by the Marquis Giovanni Enrico Del Carretto di Balestrino. The place provided the set for the movie Inkheart. Walking along any of the ancient alley brings you back to time when the powerful Del Carretto family ruled the area. The ancient Church has not changed much since then, just like the dome of the tower bell and the sundial weather-beaten and washed-out by time. Past the village, Belbea Tourist Resort is located on the highest and most panoramic site of the area, just like an eagle’s nest overlooking the green lush valley. The Resort is overlooked by the Santa Croce Sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary that has been built where Our Lady appeared 138 to a local girl during the 1950s.
